Reel Lives: The Cancer Chronicles Film Festival is an international documentary film competition organized by the International Union Against Cancer (UICC). It will be held on 28-30 August 2008 during the 2008 World Cancer Congress in Geneva, Switzerland.
The film festival will culminate in an awards ceremony where winners will be announced. The winners will also be acknowledged at the closing ceremony of the World Cancer Congress on 31 August 2008.
The Reel Lives: The Cancer Chronicles Film Festival mission is to honour those whose lives have been impacted by cancer and increase awareness of the continuing impact of this disease as a global health issue. The festival seeks to shatter taboos and myths surrounding the disease (from research to personal accounts), educate and enlighten people around the world, bridge cultural divides, and help unite the global cancer community.
The film festival is an opportunity for people who have been touched by cancer to tell their story through the medium of film. Reel Lives: The Cancer Chronicles Film Festival allows their voice to be heard. The awards will celebrate films that are thought provoking, educational and inspirational.
UICC is the leading international non-governmental organization dedicated exclusively to the global control of cancer.
UICC’s mission is to build and lead the global cancer control community engaged in sharing and exchanging knowledge and competence; transferring scientific findings to clinical, patient and public settings; systematically reducing and eliminating disparities in prevention, early detection and treatment and delivering the best possible care to people living with cancer in every part of the world.
Every other year, UICC hosts the World Cancer Congress. This event brings together the world’s leaders in the fight to control cancer.
During the World Cancer Congress, leading clinicians, practitioners, government agencies and NGOs, patient-care providers and advocates, research and behavioural scientists, and public health experts focus on transforming the latest knowledge into strategies that countries, communities, institutions and individuals can employ to reduce the cancer burden.
